Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba

Students, teachers and members of the Robert H. Smith family – congratulations on a milestone in learning and life.

It is my pleasure to join you virtually from Government House, located in the heart of Winnipeg on the traditional land of the Anishinabe and Metis people – in a province enriched by a large and vibrant indigenous community.

I hope this video fills your hearts with memories of friendship, fun and discovery. I hope it inspires enthusiasm for the great opportunities for learning and growing that lie ahead. Your journey is just beginning!

Think of all you have learned in your time in school so far, in English and French, in math and science and social studies, in music and art and physical education.

Think back to your kindergarten self, and how much has changed!

Your knowledge of the world has grown so much in the last seven years – just as you have.

Some of the most important lessons you have learned that will serve you well throughout your life have been about sharing a classroom and building a community with others.

Encouraged by your dedicated teachers, along with your friends and families, you have learned to appreciate each other’s ideas, interests, beliefs and talents.

I hope you have learned to give, and to graciously receive, help and encouragement and I hope you have learned that there are times to take the lead, and times to follow.

As you prepare to move onto the exciting world of middle school there will be even more opportunities to try new things and learn new skills and I hope you take that leap and say YES!

Saying yes is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Saying YES will lead to many amazing adventures and experiences. YES is the mother of all possibilities.

Wherever this great big world takes you, remember to be kind, spread joy, dream big and never stop learning. You are the leaders of tomorrow, and I think, because of you and others like you, we are in good hands.

Have a wonderful, safe summer

Thank you.  Merci.  Meegwich.
