Dear friends and fellow Manitobans. If you’re looking for some good news and a dose of inspiration, you’ve come to the right place.

Welcome to the 2020 Manitoba Philanthropy Awards Today, we have the opportunity to formally recognize and celebrate some true builders of our community.

It is a pleasure to join you virtually from the traditional land of the Anishinaabe and the Metis, in a city and province enriched by a large and vibrant Indigenous community.

These awards are especially close to my heart because I’ve had the great fortune to spend so much of my life working with people who freely give their money, expertise and time to others.

I have seen how philanthropy makes magic happen.

An act of giving leaves light, hope, beauty and understanding in its wake. And it can go on touching lives, year after year and decade after decade, long after the gift-giver is gone.

Philanthropists – and the volunteers and professionals who support fund-raising – provide the fuel for innovation. And they provide financial security that allows health professionals, educators, artists, scientists and community workers to focus on what they do best.

The mark of true leadership is when your activities allow others to be their best, to achieve their dreams.

Today’s recipients of Manitoba Philanthropy Awards have done just that.

Thanks to you, countless Manitobans have discovered new opportunities and insights and experienced greater peace, joy and beauty.

To all of today’s recipients – thank you for your leadership, thank you for choosing to shine a light in someone else’s life. You inspire us all. Congratulations.

Thank you.   Merci.  Meegwich.
