LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR TO VISIT NORTHERN COMMUNITIES SEPTEMBER 25-28

Lt.-Gov. Janice C. Filmon, accompanied by His Honour the Honourable Gary A. Filmon, will spend four days in Northern Manitoba, visiting the communities of The Pas, Cranberry Portage and Flin Flon. Lt.-Gov. Filmon has extended an invitation to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, to join her for part of the visit.

“We are very much looking forward to connecting with outstanding Manitobans, young and old, and learning more about life in the north,” the lieutenant-govenor said. “I am so pleased that Her Excellency has accepted my invitation, and am honoured and proud for the opportunity to share the vibrancy and diversity of just some of the communities in the northern part of our beautiful province.”

Below is Their Honour’s itinerary. Times are indicated in Central Daylight time.

THE PAS
Wednesday, September 25, 2019

  • 10:00 am – Their Honours will tour the University College of the North Campus and meet with faculty and staff
  • 11:00 am – Their Honours will tour the Rural Municipality of Kelsey
  • 12:00 pm – Their Honours will visit  Xroads Teen Centre   145 Larose Avenue, The Pas
  • 1:50 pm – Their Honours will tour the Beatrice Wilson Health Centre Opaskwayak Cree Nation
  • 2:30 pm – Her Honour will bring greetings to the Joe A. Ross School Assembly Opaskwayak Cree Nation
  • 3:10 pm – The Honours will tour the LED Smart Farm Opaskwayak Cree Nation
  • 3:45 pm – Their Honours will visit with seniors and staff at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home 34 – 2nd Street, W., The Pas
  • 6:00 pm – Their Honours will attend a community dinner hosted by The Pas University College of the North

CRANBERRY PORTAGE
Thursday, September 26, 2019

  • 10:00 am  –  Her Honour will address the Cranberry Portage Elementary School Assembly Cranberry Portage, Manitoba
  • Their Honours will be joined at the school by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada
  • 11:00 am  –  Their Honours will tour the Northern Buffalo Art Gallery with artist Irvin Head Cranberry Portage, Manitoba
  • 11:30 am  –  Their Honours will attend a Community Luncheon at Cranberry Portage Elementary School

FLIN FLON

  • 2:00 pm  –  Their Honours will visit Hapnot Collegiate for Flin Flon Culture Days “SUPERSTAR! High School Program and observe students engaging in a variety of cultural events
  • Their Honours will be joined for this event by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada
  • 3:00 pm  –  Their Honours will participate in a Heritage Tour of the community and learn about the vibrant history of Flin Flon.
  • 5:30 pm  –  Her Honour will bring greetings to “Water and Wild by Whitbread & Watt” Visual Art Show Opening Flin Flon City Hall Chambers
  • 6:00 pm  –  Their Honours will attend a community dinner hosted by the City of Flin Flon Flin  Flon Community Hall
  • Their Honours will be joined at the dinner by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada

Friday, September 27, 2019

  • 10:10 am  –  Their Honours will visit St. Ann’s Parish for Flin Flon Culture Days “Culture’s Cool for Kids” Event and observe pre-schools engaging in a variety of cultural events
  • 10:45 am  –  Their Honours will visit the Flin Flon Public Library for “Culture Days Senior’s Event
  • 1:45 pm  –  Their Honours will visit the Rotary Wheel “PLANTS” event
  • 2:10 pm  –  Their Honours will visit City Council Chambers and observe additional SUPERSTAR! High School cultural events
  • 3:00 pm  –  Her Honour will bring greetings to the SUPERSTAR! Program Showcase Event Flin Flon Community Hall
  • 7:30 pm  –  Their Honours will attend the “Human Books” Event and Her Honour will officially kick off “Culture Days” Flin Flon Public Library

Saturday, September 28, 2019

  • 9:30  –  Their Honours will attend the Regal Celebration Ceremonial Tree Planting honouring two recipients of the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Historical Preservation and Promotion Flin Flon Station Museum
  • The Lieutenant Governor’s Tree Project recognizes individuals who have made a contribution to our province, in a sustainable way, by planting a tree in their honour. 
  • 10:00 am  –  Their Honours will attend the “Community Culture Days Brunch” Eagle Rose Healing Lodge
  • 2:25 pm  –  Depart Flin Flon for Winnipeg
  • 5:00 pm  –  Arrive Winnipeg
