Lt.-Gov. Janice C. Filmon is inviting Manitobans to join her in engaging in Conversations and Celebrations – a gathering of fascinating and entertaining people from across this great province. Beginning on Tuesday, May 8, Lt.-Gov. Filmon will host the first in a series of monthly public events to honour the 135th birthday of Government House.
The theme of the inaugural event will be ‘Building Community’. Facilitated by Anne Mahon, author of the book Redemption, community members Mitch Bourbonniere, James Favel and Michael Redhead Champagne will provide a glimpse into the incredible work they are doing in the community, sharing challenges and accomplishments. Guests will have opportunity to ask questions and join the conversation. A dynamic performance by the Asham Stompers will round out the evening.
In her role as lieutenant-governor, as well as in her private life, Lt.-Gov. Filmon embraces the role of community connector. Her vision for Conversations and Celebrations is to continue to find meaningful ways to bring Manitobans together to learn, and celebrate unique talents, abilities and perspectives by embracing the rich diversity of this province and its people.
“The 135th anniversary of Government House is the perfect time to launch this program and welcome Manitobans into their ceremonial home,” said Lt.-Gov. Filmon. “I want people to leave Government House at the end of the evening with their hearts and minds full, eyes wide open to the great things happening in our province and inspired to make a difference.”
Events will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month, with the exception of July, August and December. Those wishing to attend must register with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor by calling 204-945-2753. Registration will open two weeks before each event and is limited to 90 guests. There is no cost to attend.
